of the Space ShotŪ . The Cedar Point
Sports Tower is a massive 300-foot tall
amusement ride powered completely by compressed
air. It consists of four 240-foot tall towers
topped with connecting arches. Two of the
towers blast riders up the structure while
two will thrust riders down - all in 3 seconds
at more than 50 mph. The $10 million power
tower opened in 1998 as the tallest ride
of its kind in the world and was listed
in the 1999 edition of The Guinness Book
of World Records as the tallest free-fall
ride in the world.
